The Descendants of Grand Bassa (DOGB) was founded in May 2024 with a shared vision—to unite the sons and daughters of Grand Bassa County who carry within them a deep love for our homeland, and an unyielding commitment to its progress. Across the shores, from Liberia to the United States, we have come together as one family, bound by our heritage and driven by a desire to see Grand Bassa flourish. Through our collective strengths, we are turning passion into action, rebuilding what was lost, and restoring the pride of our beloved county.
WELCOME TO GRAND BASSA BILLBOARD PROJECT
Today, we are proud to announce that DOGB received official authorization on February 11,
2025, from Acting Superintendent Hon. James W. Duen and County Officials to construct a new
Welcome to Grand Bassa billboard, replacing the one that once stood as a symbol of our
county’s hospitality but was sadly destroyed.
This project was born out of a moment of realization—when one of our devoted members, Eddie
Flahn, visited Buchanan in July 2024 and saw the damaged sign. He saw not just what was
missing, but what could be—a renewed symbol of Grand Bassa’s resilience, strength, and
enduring spirit.
Determined to make a difference, DOGB Liberia engaged in discussions with the late Hon. Julia
K. Bono, former Superintendent of Grand Bassa County, and other County Leaders on October
3, 2024. Inspired by our commitment, Superintendent Bono approved our proposal and identified the site for the new billboard. Sadly, her untimely passing brought an unexpected pause to our plans. Yet, in the face of loss, we pressed forward.
DOGB continued the conversation with Acting Superintendent Hon. James W. Duen, who not
only reaffirmed our authorization, but also ensured that we secured a reputable contractor to
complete the project with the highest standards of excellence. Additionally, we have unofficially
communicated our plans with the newly nominated Superintendent, Hon. Karyou Johnson, to
maintain continuity and collaboration.
Furthermore, DOGB has notified Senator Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karngar Lawrence and
Senator Gbehzohngar Milton Findley, Chairman of the Bassa Legislative Caucus, about this
significant project to ensure transparency and collective engagement in this initiative.
Through the unwavering dedication of our members and the generosity of our supporters, DOGB
has successfully raised the necessary funds for this project. With immense joy, we announce that
the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Welcome to Grand Bassa billboard will take place
on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the Farmington Bridge.
The work is anticipated to commence immediately following the groundbreaking, with a
dedication ceremony scheduled for April 1, 2025.
MASSIVE CLEAN-UP CAMPAIGN: A CALL TO ACTION
Our work does not stop here. As part of our commitment to revitalization and sustainability,
DOGB will lead a massive clean-up campaign in Buchanan in April 2025. This initiative is a
call to all who cherish Grand Bassa—to stand with us, to take pride in our community, and to be
part of the movement that restores the beauty and dignity of our home.
JOIN US IN BUILDING A BRIGHTER FUTURE
This is more than a sign—it is a statement. A declaration that Grand Bassa stands strong, proud,
and united. A testament that when we come together, there is no challenge too great, no dream
too far, and no vision unattainable.
To our fellow Bassonians, friends, and supporters—we invite you to join us. Whether through
your time, your voice, or your contributions, you have a role in shaping the future of Grand
Bassa. Let us continue to build, uplift, and reclaim the greatness of our county together.
Thank you for believing in this vision. Thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,
Glendy Jane Junius
