Grand Bassa County – As Liberia is struggling to get involve or take hold of the agriculture sector, an aspirant of electoral district #5 in Grand Bassa, Sam O. Saygar has contributed to the improvement of farming activities in Grand Bassa County.
Saygar over the weekend donated 160 bags of seed rice, 75 bags (25kg) and cassava stamps to farmers within the district to enhance their annual farming projects.
The donation was initiated through the ‘Friends of Sam O. Saygar’ as their way of empowering local farmers in the district to carry out their farming activities without any form of distraction or delay.
Speaking to journalists at his Monrovia office, the Aspirant Saygar disclosed that the initiative is part of many activities he is about to embark on ahead of the 2017 general and Presidential elections.
“We promised our people that when we are elected, our focus will be placed on agriculture, health and education, which we have already started,” he said.
According to him, the distribution of the materials is currently ongoing in the district, and he is expected to cover the entire district before the end of April. He revealed that the consignment of supply cost the ‘Friends of Sam O. Saygar’ closed to US$18,000.00.
The Liberian health practitioner noted that by May 2016, his free medical treatment will be launched in the district to diminish distances covered by the old folks, babies’ mother, children and pregnant women for medication.
He also added that training opportunities will be provided by his organization to the farmers as part of his economic empowerment, agriculture and business skills training as to enable them being in the know of the various business techniques.
“Many of our farmers in the district do not have the requisite skill in doing business when they harvest; as such, they do not benefit or realize anything during the year which subsequently breaks down their businesses; this is what we want to minimize in my district ,” he said.
He said beneficiaries will also be empowered to produce varieties of agriculture products for marketing purpose as to enable farmers actualized their labors.
