Voinjama, Lofa County – A former Lofa County Senatorial candidate says considering the educational plight of Lofans and the numerous challenges the county is faced with, the national government including the Lofa County legislative caucus should now consider exploring the Wologizi Mountain.
Speaking on July 15 at the commencement program of the inaugural (1st) graduates of the Lofa County Community College in Voinjama City, Cllr. Joesph Kolako Kpator Jallah noted that the Wologizi mountain was discovered by geologists to have vast mineral deposit since 1905 but yet untapped.
Said Counselor Jallah: “The intent of this call is an unqualified opinion that development cannot take place without academic activities. And this will bring about job creation, economic and social developments including a source of income for the community college.
People will even begin to leave from Monrovia and go there when the county is a resource based.”
Commenting on the decline in the prices of iron ore, Jallah said the problem is a global issue that is not permanent.
Continued Jallah: “The development of the Mineral Development Agreement and the need to have infrastructure for the purpose of exploring the ore will take over five years.
So they could begin to do that now with the hope that by the time the five years is over the marketing will be picking up. To construct even the railroad from Lofa to the sea coat is going to take some time. To procure the equipment and build the facility to explore the ore will also take a lot of time”
Jallah said although all minerals discovered belong to the state as per the constitution of Liberia, all the people of Lofa should demand is a fair share of the value of the iron ore.
He said: “What supposed to go to the government should go to revenue and what supposed to stay in Lofa for social development and other activities should remain there.”
The former Lofa county senatorial candidate suggested that at least five percent of the total income generated from the Wologizi mine could go to the people of Lofa in a form of social development.
Meanwhile, students at the Lofa County Community College have honored Cllr. Jallah based on his numerous supports to the students.
He was gowned and certificated on July 15, for his numerous contributions towards the students’ community both at the community college and the state run University of Liberia.
Jallah had over thirty (30) students who were benefiting from his scholarship program. Among the beneficiaries, over ten (10) students graduated recently from various disciplines at the Lofa County Community College.
“Can you imagine if you were to have three million dollars in this county as social contribution from Wologizi alone before other income from GoL?
You could give maybe half million to the community college alone, one point five or two million dollars to just service the road and yet you could still be getting money from the government.
