Kakata, Margibi County – A day long Legislative town hall dialog under the banner “The Peoples’ Votes; The People Rights-Empowering Voters to Make Informed Decisions In 2017” project organized by the Foundation for Human Rights and Democracy (FOHRD) in partnership with National Endowment for Democracy (NED) has ended in Margibi County.
The forum held over the weekend in Kakata, Margibi County brought together three representative candidates of Margibi County electoral district number four in a face-to-face interactions with hundreds of electorates.
According to the organizers, all ten candidates vying for the representative seat in electoral district number four were invited, but only three fulfilled their promised.
Those present were Madam Hannah J. Slocum of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), Fred P. Weaseah, an independent candidate and Jacob O. Bainda of the Liberia Transformation Party (LTP).
Miss Daniletta F. Sleyon, the Executive Director of FOHRD said her organization designed the Peoples’ Votes; The People Rights-Empowering Voters to Make Informed Decisions in 2017 project in order to afford electorates in the selected electoral districts to engage their respective representative candidates them on the issues of corruption, natural resource management, empowerment and security.
She disclosed that about sixteen electoral districts in Margibi, Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Bomiand Grand Bassa Counties, respectively.
“The forum is basically intended for the citizens to engage their candidates to know from them what are their agendas and encourage first time voters to reach out to vote” Miss Sleyon noted.
She asserted that it is paramount for the electorates to have the opportunity to engage their representative candidates on their political manifestos, thus placing them (citizens) in better position to make the best decision in the interest of their constitutes.
She, however, admonished Liberian voters to utilize the opportunity to exercise their civil right for the betterment of Liberia.
The day long Legislative town hall dialog roused the voters interest greatly as applauds were given in every point of the discussants deliberations.
The candidates after proffering their manifestos praised the citizenry for conducting themselves in a civil manner.
They praised the Foundation for Human Rights and Democracy (FOHRD) and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) for creating the platform for them to peacefully engage their constitutes, and they also promised to remained peaceful during and after the conduct of the October 10, 2017 representatives and presidential elections.
