Gbarnga, Bong County – A boy identified as Emmanuel Chaplay was burnt to death on Wednesday following a fire disaster that consumed his father’s residence in the Bronkly Community in Gbarnga.
The fire was reportedly caused by a burning candle light which the deceased lighted but forgot to turn off before going to bed.
“It was the candle that he lighted that caused the fire. When he came home, there was no light, so, he had to light a candle. The fire burnt everything in the house,” some neighbors disclosed to FrontPage Africa.
According to report, the fire started at about 2 a.m. and burnt the deceased who was asleep to ashes before it was put out. Other occupants of the residence reportedly ran out when the fire started without knowing that Chaplay, the deceased was asleep in his room.
Properties worth thousands of Liberian dollars were destroyed in the fire. Meanwhile, the charred body of the late Chaplay has been buried at the Gbarnga Cemetery.
It was gathered from the neighbors that the father of the victim is a prominent business man in Gbarnga.
Effort by this paper to speak with the father of the deceased was unsuccessful as he has declined to speak to our reporter. “I’m not in the mood to say anything,” he said.
