Monrovia – Boima S. Kamara made the commitment during a recent courtesy visit to Liberia’s Finance and Development Planning Minister, Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan, in Monrovia.
He was accompanied by the outgoing Acting Director General of WAMA and a Senior Economist.
Established in 1996 as an autonomous agency of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), WAMA’s primary objective is to promote monetary integration and stability within the region.
Kamara, who is the first Liberian to hold the position of Director General of WAMA, emphasized his commitment to working with the 15 ECOWAS member states, including finance ministers and central bank governors, during his four-year term.
In his address, Kamara remarked, “As Director General of WAMA, I am eager to support Liberia by utilizing the agency’s intellectual resources to strengthen research and evidence generation. We stand ready to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to facilitate your work on the fiscal side of the economy, offering any support that can ease your efforts.”
He stressed the importance of thinking creatively and collaboratively within the framework of ECOWAS to address fiscal challenges across West Africa.
“It is time to think outside the box and find solutions that are in line with ECOWAS’ objectives and that address the fiscal constraints facing our region,” Kamara said.
Kamara expressed his gratitude to former Presidents Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Joseph Boakai for giving him the opportunity to serve as Liberia’s Finance Minister on two separate occasions.
“I’m thankful for the trust and support I received from Presidents Sirleaf and Boakai, which enabled me to contribute to Liberia’s economic development.
This new role as WAMA Director General is a continuation of the faith they had in me, and I am honored to serve both Liberia and the region in this capacity,” Kamara said.
Minister Ngafuan congratulated Kamara on his appointment and praised his contributions to Liberia’s economic development. “Mr. Kamara, you have brought pride to our nation. You are one of the best Liberia has produced, and your work has shone brightly both in Liberia and across the region. I am proud of you, and you have our full support as you take on this new responsibility. We are united in our commitment to supporting WAMA,” Ngafuan stated.
As Director General of WAMA, Kamara’s leadership is expected to play a crucial role in furthering regional economic cooperation and stability, while also strengthening Liberia’s economic policies through strategic collaboration.
