MONROVIA — The acting chairperson of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC), Cllr. Kanio Bai Gbala, has outlined what he calls their short-term priority areas to the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Liberia Niels Scott.
During discussions with Mr. Scott at the Pan African Plaza in Sinkor on 18 March, Cllr. Gbala outlined that over the next three months, he will embark on short term plans to rebrand and rebuild the image of the LACC by greater public engagement and build the institutional capacity by seeking support for soft and hard infrastructures as well as investing in active coordination with integrity institutions.
Cllr. Gbala said it is important to rebrand and rebuild the LACC in order for it to succeed.
To do this, he averred that the LACC must adopt a nonpartisan and professional posture by avoiding baseless allegations but rather engaging in high quality investigations and reporting unbiased findings from those processes.
For his part, Mr. Scott thanked Cllr. Gbala for the meeting and said he was glad to know that the LACC is still active and aims to engage in meaningful work.
Mr. Scott, who is the highest United Nations official in Liberia, promised to remain engaged with the work of the LACC.
