Monrovia – The Deputy Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Randall M. Dobayou, II, says through the efforts of the Adaption Plans Project (NAPs), the School of Environmental Studies and Climate Change (SESCC) is now opened at the University of Liberia.
Dobayou spoke Thursday, September 26, at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism regular press briefing,
The School, which will start offering courses effective this semester, is being sponsored by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
According to Dobayou, the SESCC will be the first Graduate Degree program in the field of sciences at the state-run University.
He added that the NAPs through the EPA will use the school as one of the ways in developing national and sectorial plans to tackle present and future climate change challenges.
“The NAPs is enabling us to build human and institutional capacity as we seek to address climate sensitive issues such as Coastal erosion, Agriculture, Energy and Forestry,” he stated.
He stressed that the timing of the program could not have come at a better time than now because “it is scientifically clear that our country is highly vulnerable to coastal erosion and flood because of many factors.”
The deputy EPA boss is encouraging young Liberians to take advantage of the opportunity.
“We need more scientists than politicians because science will inspire our innovation, create our imagination, develop our infrastructure, build our economy and secure a better future for our children,” he said.
