Monrovia – The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, represented by the Minister, Cllr. Cooper W. Kruah and the QR Angel Investment Inc, a South Korean Investment group, represented by its Chairman, Mr. Michael Choi, signed an MOU yesterday May 30, 2018 to hold further discussion for possible assistance for the establishment of a Postal Financial Services within the Liberia Postal Operation.
According to the MOU, QR Angel Investment INC will send to Liberia, technicians to work with technicians at the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications to determine the type of financial services that will be beneficial for the Liberia postal service base upon international standards.
In a brief remark by the minister, at the signing ceremony, he told the chairman of the investment group that the Universal Postal Union (UPU) adapted resolution fear years ago which mandated member states to explore other avenue or area of services other than the tradition means of delivering letter that will make our postal offices to remain viable institution because the introduction of Information Communications Technology (ICT) and internet services has reduced the use of traditional mailing system.
The minister further noted that many other countries have introduced the postal financial services normally referred to financial inclusion to bring financial services closer to the masses or the poor who may not have access to the financial institution based upon the area that they reside.
The provision of inclusive financial services around the country will support the pro-poor agenda of the government.
For his part, Mr. Choi assured the minister that his investment group will do everything within its reach to assist the ministry to establish first-class postal financial services.
He also told the minister that his cooperation is looking beyond Liberia in that Liberia will be a test case to providing similar services in other West African nations.
