Monrovia – President George Manneh Weah has expressed regret over the death of an officer of the Executive Protection Service (EPS), Moore Tokpa.
Officer Tokpa died at the ELWA Hospital in Paynesville, outside Monrovia during the morning hours of Wednesday.
EPS’ Communication Director Philip Moore told FrontPageAfrica via telephone that officer Tokpa was battling illness for a prolong period of time.
There are reports that officer Tokpa fell off while on duty at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But Director Moore termed these reports as “false and far from the truth.”
According to him, the deceased was rushed to the hospital by his elder brother (who he did not name), but was pronounced dead upon arrival by doctors at the ELWA hospital.
“Officer Moore illness has been off and on. We can confirm that he died this morning. But we cannot tell you whether he felt off at work and was rushed at the hospital. He was a very dedicated and hardworking officer,” he stated.
Mr. Moore disclosed that medical report obtained from the hospital shows that officer Tokpah died from ‘early diabetes and chronic typhoid’.
In a statement posted on the social media, President Weah consoled the bereaved family during this time of mourning.
He recalled that prior to his demised the EPS officer served his country with ‘passion and professionalism’.
“My prayers go out to the family of Executive Protection Officer Moore Tokpa; as they mourn the passing of their loved one. This news came as a shock to all of us – as Officer Tokpa was a dedicated public servant who served with passion and professionalism. Words cannot truly express how distraught we all are upon hearing of the demise of such a committed public servant,” he stated.
According to him, the death of the EPS officer “has left a deep void in our hearts and he will truly be missed”.
“On behalf of the Government and in my own name, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to his family, members of the Executive protection Service and all those affected by this tragic loss. We assure you of our fullest support as you go through this moment of deep sorrow,” the President maintained.
Prior to his untimely demise, officer Tokpah served the EPS for four (4) consecutive years as Head of Advance Team, and President Residential Guard.
