District Two, Bong County — A coalition of youth associations and student groups, under the auspices of Gbansia Clan Students’ Campaign Organization, have drummed their support for the representative bid of J. Mulbah Totaye.
Totaye is expected to contest as an independent candidate in the April 27 by-election in Bong’s District Two.
The seat for the district has been declared vacant by the National Elections Commission (NEC) after Prince Moye, the district former representative, won as senator of Bong County in last year’s Special Senatorial Elections.
He is up against 19 aspirants who are jostling to replace Moye, including Moye’s former Chief of Office Staff, Joshua Better, Edward Gboe, former YMCA Executive Director, businessman Melvin Savage who finished second to Moye in 2017 representative election, Matthew Siakor, who finished third in 2017, Cllr Jefferson Blackie among others.
The coalition, made up of partisans of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), among others, drummed their support in a statement.
The statement was signed by the group’s head, Marcus Flomo. “The group, it its regular meeting convened by the leadership in the district, decided to unite and expand the youths and students structures in the district to ensure the emergence of Totaye as the next representative of the district”.
“The group has accepted the blue print of Mr Totaye and have set the machinery into motion through its structures in the district.”
The coalition described Totaye as a true son of the soil who would unite and bring the dividends of his representation at the National Legislature not only to the district, but Bong County when he’s elected as representative.
“We are supporting you in this by-election and our support is non-partisan. We will mobilize and ensure you win.”
Reacting to the show of solidarity, Totaye said he’s humbled by the endorsement by a non-partisan group. “I’m humbled. I’m excited. I won’t disappoint. I’m really privileged to have this endorsement,” Totaye said.
“I can assure us all light has come to District Two. It’s time I replicate my success as an agriculturist and a private citizen to the development of District Two. I will lead the campaign for real change of mindset of our people through reorientation,” he said.
