Monrovia – The Executive Mansion has called on two officials of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), who were attacked by angry residents of Grand Gedeh County, to show up at the Ministry of Justice for Investigation.
Smith Toby, Deputy Presidential Press Secretary, told an Executive Mansion press briefing Tuesday that Mr. Alexander B. Cummings, head of the CPP and Montserrado County District #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah have refused to show up and give their accounts of the situation since an invite was extended to them by the Ministry of Justice.
“Whenever there is a situation that borders on security and instability in our country, it is the constitutional responsibility of the president to ensure that these situations are properly investigated, and the President is hoping that the CPP will consider the invitation of the Ministry of Justice for proper investigation to take place,” Toby said.
Toby said the refusal of the two opposition politicians to participate in the process is stalling ongoing investigation into the matter.
According to him, President George Manneh Weah takes every citizen important and is concerned about what transpired in Grand Gedeh County, which he added has the propensity of undermining the development activities already ongoing in the country.
Meanwhile, Toby said the committee set up by President Weah to investigate situation at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, (NPHIL) has completed its investigation and has made several recommendations, which the President will act upon.
“Since he received the recommendation from the committee, the President has been having series of consultations with Liberia’s international partners and authority at the Ministry of Health and is expected to take a decision soon,” he averred.
In the wake of these political tensions, couple with the coronavirus pandemic, which has scale down activities in Liberia, Toby noted that the Ministry of Public Work is making some gains in implementing projects.
According to him, the government, through the Ministry of Public Works, has put up a bid for the construction of a road from Battery Factory along the Somalia Drive to Bali Island in Monrovia.
“Once the road to the Island is constructed, the Indian Government will begin the construtcion of the Ghandi Conference Center,” Toby said, adding that the Government of India has made a US$144 Million commitment to Liberia for the project.
At the same time, he said the 14 Gobachop Market in the Omega Community, Paynesville, is expected to be officially dedicated this September.
Toby furthered stated that all work on the project has been completed on the market building under the supervision of the Liberia Agency for Community Empowerment, (LACE).
President Weah broke ground for the US$3.8 Million project on March 29, 2019, and Toby said all is set for suitable commercial activities at the market, which he said will help decongest traffic congestion in Red Light Market.
