Monrovia – The Inter-religious Council of Liberia strongly condemns the reported attack on the Leader of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), Mr. Alexander B. Cummings and Montserrado County District #10 Representative, Mr. Yekeh Kolubah by persons in Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County in the early morning on Thursday, 29 July 2020. No Liberian should be denied free movement within Liberia regardless of tribe, gender, association or county origin.
The Council admonishes all Liberians to respect human rights and dignity. No Liberian should be disallowed free movement in Liberia irrespective of their political affiliation or utterances unless they are within breach of the law. In an exclusive statement published in the July 6, 2020 edition of the Front Page Africa, the IRCL spoke to the need to curtail the growing wave of insecurity in the country.”

The IRCL, a conglomeration of the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) and National Muslim Council of Liberia (NMCL) calls on the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Justice for a speedy investigation and subsequent lawful action on the perpetrators. We call on the Government to create the necessary atmosphere for the peaceful conduct of the mid-term Senatorial election in December 2020

The IRCL reiterates its commitment to the sustenance of peace in the country and its willingness to work with all stakeholders without fear or favor, in achieving this.
Meanwhile, IRCL will continue her stakeholders’ consultations to include meetings with the National Elections Commission, Collaborating Political Parties, Coalition of Democratic Change, Ministry of Internal Affairs/Superintendent of Maryland County, Ministry of Justice, National Legislature, The Judiciary, and Executive Mansion, amongst others, [with a focus] on how we can reduce the political tension in the country as we march towards the December 8, 2020 Midterm Senatorial election that will cover the fifteen (15) counties of Liberia.
