GBARNGA – The Bong county’s chapter of the Group of 77 has a new building, thanks to the County Social Development Funds. The building, which is to be used as headquarters of the organization, is valued at US $10,000.
The county’s Project Management Committee turned over the building Tuesday at a ceremony in Gbarnga.
Steve Mulbah, chairman of the Project Management Committee, said the county was pleased for providing an office for the group after two years when funds for the project was resoluted during the County Council Sitting.
Mulbah believe members of the group of can flourish in society when they are afforded the necessary space in society to explore.
“Members of this group are important in society and we as leaders of the county should continue to attach relevance to their organization through whatever means,” Mulbah said.
While the group appreciates the county’s gesture, it also expressed concerns about the lack of tiles and furnishing of the building.
“We appreciate the leadership of Bong county for providing us an office, we are concerned about the lack of tiles in the building and furnitures,” Arthur Bondo, head of the group said.
Bondo accused the county leadership of squandering funds intended for the project, and giving an impression that they used the US$10, 000 to renovate a building. “This is totally a disservice. The work done on this building doesn’t cost US$ 10,000. This is a disservice to us as an organization who had hoped that said amount would have gotten furnitures and other important items for us,” he said.
Mulbah however maintained that the total cost of the renovation works cost the county US$ 10,000.
