MONROVIA — The People’s Republic of China, through its Embassy in Monrovia, has announced plans to provide training opportunities for more nurses and doctors currently working at Jackson Fiah Doe Hospital in Tapita, Nimba County.
This announcement, seen as a significant boost to the hospital’s human resource capacity program, was made today during a meeting with the Secretary of the Commercial and Economic Office at the Chinese Embassy in Monrovia.
According to Dr. Ponnie Robertlee Dolo, MD, PhD, the Medical Director and CEO of Jackson F. Doe Hospital, the nurses and doctors will undergo short-term clinical courses as well as long-term graduate and postgraduate programs.
The short-term training programs for 2024 are expected to commence shortly at various medical institutions in the People’s Republic of China, with a specific focus on Maternal and Neonatal emergency care.
During the meeting, Dr. Ponnie Robertlee Dolo expressed gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for the offer, emphasizing that it will significantly strengthen the capacity of Jackson Fiah Doe Hospital. He also pledged full support in fostering partnerships with the Embassy.
In addition to the upcoming training, nine health and related professionals from Jackson Fiah Doe Hospital are already specializing at various universities in China. These professionals are pursuing degrees in Master of Maternal and Child Health, Master of Public Health, Master of Neonatal Care Nursing, Master of Adult Critical Care Nursing, Master of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Master of Information Technology/Computer Science, among others.
