Monrovia – The Liberia Athletics Federation (LAF) will on Saturday, November 24, hold its 60th General Assembly (Congress) at the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) headquarters on Randall Street, Monrovia at 10:00am.
At least 21 delegates are expected to attend the 2018 LAF Congress to participate in the deliberations for the promotion and development of athletics in the country.
According to a release from the LAF, Saturday’s general assembly will contain a special message from LAF president Mulbah Zaza, the reading and adoption of the 2017 Congress’ minutes and 2018 financial and activity reports, respectively.
Also during congress, delegates are expected to review and adopt the proposed 2019 budget and the 2019 calendar of events and resolution.
During the year under review of 2018, the LAF had two training camps in Liberia with 20 athletes and in the USA with 10 athletes; while head coach Samuel Cooper represented the country at the Delegation Registration Meeting in Nigeria, something the Federation sees as an achievement.
The LAF secured an office space at the Samuel K. Doe Sports Complex for use as technical office and storage beside her main office at the LNOC. Also, there was a one-day anti-doping workshop and coaches’ clinical.
The LAF held five local competitions without government support, including the National Time Trial, Inter Schools Championships, the National Open Time Trial, the National Club Championship and the Kids Athletics Competition.
Furthermore, the LAF was able to participate in five international also without government support, including the Boxing Tournament in Sierra Leone and the African Cross Country Championship in Algeria.
Others were ECOWAS U-20 Championships in Ghana; the African Youth Games in Algeria; the Senior African Championship in Nigeria and the World Youth Olympics Games.
Meanwhile, last November 25, Mr. Zaza, the incumbent president of the LAF, was reelected for the third term, 2018 to 2022.
He and three others were reelected and one was elected for the first time.
They included Madam Gbour Wilson, Vice President for Administration; Mr. Frederick Krah, Vice President for Technical Affairs; and Mr. Kokurlo Roberts, Treasurer; while Mr. Isaac Montgomery was elected for the first time as the Financial Secretary.
The election was held during the 59th General Assembly, also called the 2017 Election Congress, which is in consonance with the by-laws and constitution of the LAF, and that of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
