Monrovia – The 2017 Representative and Presidential elections in Liberia are over with a new government in power and said elections will not take place until after six years when electorates will be going back to the polls to elect a new breed of leaders of their choice.
During the last elections, the Alternative National Congress (ANC) which was represented on the Presidential ballot by Mr. Alexander B. Cummings did not capture the nation’s highest seat, the Presidency but has embarked on a nationwide tour to appreciate citizens who turned out in their numbers to show support for them (ANC) across the country.
According to a release from the party (ANC), the Standard Bearer or Political Leader, Mr. Alexander B. Cummings will lead a delegation comprising of party officials this Monday, May 28, 2018 for Margibi county where the first program will be held for citizens in that county.
Following the program in Margibi, the team will head to Bong county to hold similar program which is expected to be graced by Chiefs and elders in that county on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.
While the party’s Standard Bearer Mr. Alexander B. Cummings and team are headed for Nimba county from Bong, the Vice Standard Bearer of the Alternative National Congress (ANC) Liberia’s former Ambassador to the United States and Canada Jeremiah C. Sulunteh will lead a separate team to the Western region of the country to hold their programs of appreciation by the party.
Political pundits in the country have turned the move by the ANC as “unprecedented” in the history of Liberian Politics for a political party that did not win the Presidency to embark on an appreciation tour across the country. “this is unprecedented in our political history and I think our democracy is taking a new dimension which is good”, one pundit said.
Since the end of the 2017 Representative and Presidential elections in Liberia with the inception of the new government, this is the first appreciation tour taken by a political party across the country. Not a single one has come from the ruling party or any other political party.
“This is the beginning of our engagement with our people who we believe deserves a better Liberia”, the National Chairman of the Alternative National Congress Mr. Lafayette E.O. Gould said in an interview.
