MONROVIA – Cllr. Fonati Koffa, Representative of District #2 Grand Kru County, joined others Monday to sign the book of condolence in remembrance of Cllr. Charles Walker Brumskine who was the Liberty Party political leader emeritus. In remarks, the former LP chairman remembered the fallen LP political leader as a “great man”.
He also described the Late Brumskine as a “mentor”, noting that he enjoyed being under the mentorship of the fallen statesman. “He was a mentor to me, he was a great man – for that he will always be remembered.”
In a tearful comment, the former LP chairman said he feels privileged to be under the tutorship of Cllr. Brumskine.
Rep. Koffa is one of the founding members of LP in 2004 and served as chairman from 2012-2016. He left the Party after the 2017 presidential and general elections and joined the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) moths after they won the election
Earlier, on his Facebook page, Cllr. Koffa in response to the death news of Cllr. Brumskine said: “A great loss to the nation, an incredible man; may his soul rest in peace.”
Rep. Koffa is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee. There are rumours he may contest the Senatorial seat in 2020.
Cllr. Brumskine died Wednesday, November 20, 2019 in the United States of America following a protracted illness. He was 68. He served as Senator for Grand Bassa County and President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate from August 1997 up to his resignation in August 1999.
Prior to his death, he contested 2005, 2011 and 2017 to become President of Liberia but didn’t succeed in any.
Meanwhile, the formal weeklong funeral rites over the remains of the statesman begins today and continues with the signing of the book of condolence at the Rotunda of the Capitol Building from Tuesday – Wednesday, December 10 – 11.
The body will be removed from Samuel Stryker Funeral Home, and laid in state at the Rotunda of the Capitol Building on Thursday, December 12.
Wake keeping will be held the same day at Bethel Cathedral of Hope in Congo Town.
Funeral will be held on Friday, December 13 at the Bethel Church and, on Saturday, December 14, there will be a procession of the body from Stryker to Grand Bassa County. On the same day, the body will be laid in State at the Unification Pavilion, Buchanan City, and then interment and repast will follow thereafter.
