Margibi County – The Managing Director of the Liberia Institute for Public Administration (LIPA), Bill Twehway, is calling on the government of Liberia to increase the budget of the institution in order to fast-track the implementation of the road leading to institute’s new training and office complex on the Robert field high way.
The project, which is being financed by USAID, when completed will save LIPA thousands of dollars spent annually on rent.
Taking a tour of the facility along with an official of USAID Maxine Buinduah, on Friday, June 14, the LIPA boss said it is his hope that legislators will see reason to increase the budget of LIPA.
He noted that without good road to connect the facility with the highway, the project will be of no use to the public, adding that the current budget of LIPA cannot fund the road project.
“Please add more money to our budget, we have a building that USAID is providing for us but is not accessible, so we need more money to make this place accessible,” Twahway said.
“We are going to the lawmakers by the 24th of this month to defend the budget of LIPA which we will also be asking for an increment of our budget to help make this road accessible to the public.
“Our lawmakers are people who have interest in the education of young people, so I think they will come out to add something to our budget and make sure this road is possible for our people to this institution,” the LIPA boss noted.
Speaking further to FrontPage Africa, the LIPA boss commended USAID for taking up the initiative to provide LIPA with a modern building, while at the same time appealing to the agency to help condition the 1.2km road.
“I am happy that USAID came in to provide a new home for us, but like a son, we are also calling on them to help us with the road so that the money they are spending will not be wasted.”
For his part, Mr. Buinduah said the construction of the building is his government will of buttressing the Liberia government pro-poor agenda. He also urges the government of Liberia to adhere to their part of the agreement by making the road functional to the facility.
The building when completed will consist of eighteen classrooms, a multipurpose room, cafeteria, auditorium, parking lot and office space for staffs of LIPA.
