Monrovia – Starting in early September 2017, over 132 young, underprivileged Liberians have completed a 4-month youth empowerment through computer and entrepreneurship skills.
The training was conducted by MichComp Technologies (MC Tech). MC Tech, in collaboration with National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), which opened the technology computer lab in Brewerville for youths, aims to empower them with digital learning materials to boost their innovative and creative skills.
Some of the students, in an interview with this newspaper, said they were happy for the training because it has equipped them to fit in the society.
Faith Gerring, one of the students, stated that she had dreamed of becoming a tech entrepreneur after high school but had no means of getting started.
“Until I was told about the training, today I’m proud that I have completed the training.”
“I have the dream of establishing my own business and empowering young girls like me,” she said.
Daniel Ross another student commended NOCAL for the training as it is a boast to his career path.
Ross said the training was impactful adding that he will also impact the knowledge taken from the training to youngsters in his community.
The head of the MC Tech, Michael Fayiah, said his company is committed to ensuring more young people achieve their potential.
Fayiah maintained that the computer lab will help youths to be prepared for the job market.
According to him, their partnership with NOCAL will benefit more than 180 youngsters.
The collaboration is part of NOCAL’s initiative to create educational, employment and entrepreneurial opportunities to more than 300,000 youths in the 15 counties of Liberia.
A member of NOCAL Corporate Social Responsibility said it was a dream comes through to empower young Liberians.
Ambulai Mamey added that NOCAL remains committed to building the capacity of Liberian students and youths.
“We have a corporate social responsibility to build the capacity of young and inspiring students so that they can be part of society building,” he stated.
