Monrovia – The Management of the National Housing Authority (NHA) has commenced phase three of NASSCORP Village Housing Estate in Brewerville, outside Monrovia for the construction of additional 70 housing units in fulfillment of government’s mandate to provide housing for citizens across Liberia.
There are reports about the surge in demand for housing since the construction and dedication of the second phase of the NHA housing project in Brewerville last year.
Making the disclosure on Tuesday, NHA Deputy Managing Director for Administration, Prince Wreh said the housing unit will aid in curtailing the hardships being faced by citizens to easily construct houses in the country.
He said the NHA recognizes the partnership of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) in providing the necessary funding to construct affordable housing units for Liberians.
Speaking during an awareness campaign across Monrovia by the marketing division of the NHA, he indicated that the procurement process for quality Liberian Contractors is ongoing with the hope of commencing the third phase of the project before the start of the rainy season.
The NHA Deputy Managing Director averred that upon completion of phase three, containing the 70 housing units as planned, the estate will play host to 163 houses, comprising three and two bedrooms.
Wreh further noted that the approach by President Sirleaf has brought a new dynamism to rebuilding public confidence in the NHA by the execution of its core mandate.
For his part the Managing Director of NASSCORP, Dewitt Von Balmoos, noted that NASSCORP provision of funding is in recognition of government’s mandate to provide housing for the citizenry.
“At NASSCORP, we are in fulfillment of government’s mandate as to the demand for housing and with the NHA in that area, things are going on well,” he said.
He revealed NASSCORP’s plan to complete the housing estate as prescribed by the NHA, adding that the sale of the houses is ongoing with huge demands from the citizens.
“LBDI is offering ten year mortgage for the houses, so there is a lot of demand for the houses,” he stated. Mr. Von Ballmoos stressed that there are plans for the construction of schools and a Police station.
“Currently, there is a construction of school, hospital as well as Police station at the housing units already constructed.” At the same time, he maintained that the housing units are intended for people who can afford to buy it as required.
NASSCORP Village Housing Estate construction is part of the NHA five thousand affordable housing units and home ownership ad mortgage program formulated in 2012 in collaboration with the Housing Sector Working Group.
