The residents told FrontPage Africa on Thursday, June 15, that the body of the unknown male, believed to be in his thirties was found lying by the main road leading from Monrovia early Tuesday, June 13, 2017, and has not been removed.
They alleged that the deceased was one of several armed robbers that had gone to rob a popular gas station in the community and was caught and murdered by a mob; with the others escaping in a vehicle.
When contacted, the Liberia National Police depot in Mount Barclay refused to comment on the incident on grounds that they were not cloth with the authority give out any information.
The CSD officer in charge referred our reporter to the LNP headquarters in Monrovia.
Speaking to FPA, the residents said the body is posing a serious health hazard as they can no longer withstand the bad smell and flies from the decomposing corpse.
“Many people who used to sell here have left because of the bad smell and flies from the body, explained Elton Wheamie, a resident who operates a cell phone booth in the area.”
Elton, who sells recharge cards and charge phones for his customers laments that due to the incident, most of his customers are turning away.
A lady only identified as Beatrice narrated that since the incident, they have not seen any authority at the scene.
“Nobody has come here to tell us anything about taking the body from here.”
“This body has been here for almost three days. As you can see, it is spoiling now and is causing serious pollution in the community.”
“The Police or whosoever responsible for this should come and remove this body from here,” she pleaded.
Beatrice also noted that the corpse is polluting the creek that is used by young people in the area as car wash.
The incident has also claimed the attention of other non residents within the community.Speaking to FrontPageAfrica at the scene, Moses Kollie, a student of the University of Liberia and a resident of Fendell described the failure of the authorities to take the body from the community as an irresponsible act.
“This body has been lying right by this road for almost three days now.”
“This is disgusting and unhealthy. If there is any law that states that an unidentified body should be exposed for three days before it can be removed by the authorities, then that law is archaic and bad and does not represent a civilized community,” Kollie asserted.
Evelyn Karto, another student of the University of Liberia who commutes from Red-Light to Fendell every day added.
“This scene is very disgusting. For the last three days, we can pass by this body while commuting to school to and fro.”
“There is a need that the body be removed by the relevant authorities,” she intoned.
