France – Senator George Weah, political leader of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), paid a courtesy visit on leaders of the European Union Parliament.
The meeting which was attended by several high ranking officials of the EU parliament, centered around the conduct of a free, fair, and transparent election, peace and stability in Liberia, the promotion of true tenets of democracy, and the need to further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Liberia and the European Union.
During the visit, Senator Weah met with Antonio Tajani, President of the European Union Parliament, Anna Fotya, Chairperson on security and Defense at the EU Parliament, Mr. Gianni Pittella, President of the Progressive Alliance of Socialist and Democrat at the EU Parliament, and Syed Kamall, Co-Chairman of the European Conservative and Reformist.
At the meeting, the CDC political leader stressed the importance of an EU election monitoring team to ensure that the Oct 10th presidential election will be free, fair and transparent.
He also assured the EU parliament leaders that Liberia’s relationship with the EU will be further strengthened if he’s elected as president of Liberia, and assured them of the CDC’s unequivocal commitment to a violent free election come October 10, 2017.
For their part, the EU parliament leadership responded by assuring Sen. Weah of the EU commitment to Liberia’s progress through the conduct of a peaceful, free, fair and transparent election, and their continuous support to Liberia’s agenda for prosperity and its post war economic recovery process.
They went further to disclose that the EU has agreed to send a team of election monitors that will be headed by Arena Daria, and further stressed the need for more trade between members of the European Union countries and Liberia.
In closing, Senator Weah used the occasion to commend the European Union for their unwavering support towards maintaining the peace in Liberia and for their immense contributions towards Liberia’s economic and security sectors, and its overall post war recovery process.
He went further to express his sincerest compliments on behalf of the Coalition For Democratic Change, and assured them of the CDC commitment to a peaceful and violent free election, thereby paving the way for a smooth transition of leadership, an act that will safeguard the investments of our international partners such as the European Union, and protect the gains we have made as a country.
