Monrovia – A former resident of Smythe Road, Old Road has made good his country after benefiting from an opportunity to travel to the United States of America in 1988 when his cousin who attended Southwestern Christian College in Terrell, Texas was killed in a car accident.
Report by David S. Johnson, intern MediaAid Foundation,[email protected]
When he went to the United States he stayed to attend school. “I wanted to preach the gospel,” he says.
He later transferred to the International Bible College (now Heritage Christian Academy) in Florence, Ala where he met Anora who later became his wife and finished his bachelor’s degree in Bible.
Both obtained degrees in May and December 2000 from Freed-Hardeman University. He obtained a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction and Anora acquired BSC, Bachelor of Science in Child and family studies.
A couple of years after his graduation, he married Anora and decided to partner with the Camden Church of Christ. Arthur has been preaching since 1994 at the Smythe Road Church of Christ in Monrovia, Liberia.
While in the United States and with the ongoing civil crisis in Liberia during the time, Arthur B. David thought about providing education for the Liberian people as a way of helping his country that has suffered from infrastructural damages.
Since the coastal nation is on a comeback and industry is moving back in, he had to help out quickly.
“We work among a lot of poverty,” said David.
“Many children are not able to come to school because there is no money. We are working hard to establish scholarships.”
The school which he founded on September 9, 1996 has now grown into one of the outstanding schools in Liberia, the Ford-Madden Christian Academy which over the year have won prestigious awards.
With support from the Churches of Christ in the United States of America and the Christian Relief Fund (CRF) many children are able to have a school to attend that meets the quality of education.
The school now houses over 600 Liberian children who are fed on a daily basis by people who are caring to show love to a Liberian Child.
As he ponders over his little dream from the past and how it would have become without God’s help, David give thanks to the Lord through his numerous preaching to the Churches of Christ congregation in Liberia to this “gift of praise.”
The Ford-Madden Christian Academy provides jobs for over 76 Liberian Staff both afternoon and morning sections and has won prestigious awards of academics.
It is his little dream along with his wife’s that have contributed to the education system in Liberia.
