Monrovia – The Lutheran Church in Liberia Trauma Healing and Reconciliation Program (LCL-THRP) has concluded a day interactive Pre-runoff Election Conflict Resolution and peace building media engagement workshop in the country.
The workshop, which was recently held in the multi-purpose conference room of the Lutheran Church in Liberian on 13th Street, Sinkor, brought together over 26 journalists from both the print and electronic media house in Liberia with support from the Church of Sweden.
Welcoming the participants during the opening of the day workshop, Rev. Korboi M. Weegie, the Director of LCL-THRP expressed happiness that the media house whenever invited, are always willing to attend.
He said this was the second time this year that the LCL-THRP has engaged the press for similar reasons. Director Weegie stressed that this was a good sign of Liberia’s growth and development. Notwithstanding, the Director also indicated that sometimes the media ways of reporting leaves negative effects on the country.
He then encouraged participants to pay attention to whatever will be discussed so that they and their entities and Liberia can benefit from the shared knowledge as their role is maintaining Liberia’s peace and stability is paramount, and should never be underestimated by the church, society, and the government.
In a special remark, the Rt. Rev. Dr. D. Jensen Seyenkulo, Bishop of the LCL called on the media to take greater advantage of the pre-runoff Election Conflict Resolution and peace building engagement workshop given that the media is primarily responsible to drive the country’s agenda for sustainable peace worldwide and Liberia is no exception.
The media engagement initiative of the LCL-THRP coincided with the visit of Annierose Albertsen, Program Officer, Team Africa International Department, Church of Sweden (CoS). Annierose has been in the Country speaking with partners on areas of greater intervention for LCL-THRP and the people of Liberia. She thanked the workshop organizers for considering the media as a tool for the advancement of Liberia’s peace and prosperity.
Meanwhile, the workshop was facilitated by J. Lazarus Flomo, Training Officer, LCL-THRP, E. Gbellay Harris, Regional Officer, Monrovia Region and Mikael Lindgren of the Church of Sweden “Just Peace” Department.
