Monrovia – Officials of the Federation of Road Transport union of Liberia (FRTUL) have issued a disclaimer against recent assertion allegedly made by Mr. Crayton Duncan, former aide to the former Central Bank Governor that he has control over the different organizations that have been associated with the work of Dr. J. Mills Jones of ensuring financial inclusion for all Liberians, including the FRTUL.
The FRTUL at a news conference in Monrovia said Duncan has had no control or influence over the FRTUL. Moreover, the body says Mr. Duncan has no followers and supporters in the Union.
“The Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (FRTUL) would like to inform the general Public that the FRTUL has never been in any political discussion or political organization with Mr. Crayton Duncan,” said the FRTUL.
Mr. Joe Willie, secretary General of the Union, in a statement said: “Further; the federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia (FRTUL) will not entertain or hold any political discussion with Mr. Duncan; neither now nor in the future.
The massive turnout of the FRTUL to welcome and greet Dr. Jones in the different counties of Liberia has always been, and will continue to be, owing to the deepest appreciation of the invaluable contributions being made by Dr. Jones in transforming the lives of the Liberian people.”
In a statement read by the secretary general of the FRTUL, he condemned Mr. Duncan for what he termed the “falsehood” being spread about Dr. Mills Jones.
The FRTUL said the leadership of the FRTUL hopes the press briefing will correct the misleading pronouncements being made by Mr. Crayton Duncan in the media.
“In conclusion, the National Executive council President-General, President of the fifteen (15) counties and members of the Federation of Road Transport Union of Liberia.
(FRTUL) hereby categorically disassociate the FRTUL from every pronouncement, utterance, statement and assertion made by Mr. Duncan on the state radio Bumper show, Truth Breakfast show and other electronic, print and social media against Dr. Jones,” the group said.
Duncan, former Chief of Staff to the former Governor of the Central Bank of Liberia, Dr. Joseph Mills Jones, publicly sold his former boss a fortnight ago by announcing his unflinching support to Vice President Joseph N. Boakai’s presidential bid in 2017. His comments took many by surprise.
Several callers on local radio stations in Monrovia condemned Duncan, describing his action against his former boss as a total betrayal, noting that his action should be considered by all well-meaning Liberians as wickedness against Dr. Jones.
A local journalist traveling with the Liberian Vice President on his tour around the country said Duncan, expressing his support to Vice President Boakai, also called on his kinsmen not to listen to Mills Jones who he said is not qualified to be President of Liberia.
