Monrovia – Vice President Joseph Boakai is expected to launch the One Health Coordination Platform on Wednesday, June 28 at the Golden Gate Hotel in Paynesville.
The One Heath Coordination Platform brings together animal, human and environmental health experts or professionals to share ideas and work together to plan, coordinate and effectively respond to outbreaks.
The One Health approach was triggered following the Ebola Virus as a lesson learnt.
During the launch, institutions including the National Public Health Institute, the ministries of Health, Agriculture, Internal Affairs, Commerce, Finance and Development Planning, Forestry Development Authority, EPA and the both Houses Committees on Health will be present to affix their signature to a commitment to institutionalize One Health for Sustainable Coordination
Partners such as the WHO, CDC, USAID, the World Bank and FAO will also grace the launch.
It can be recalled that coordination Mechanisms that were set up during the EVD Crisis demonstrated their importance and were very effective in controlling the epidemics, building on the One Health approach.
The launch will precede a one day technical meeting on Tuesday of directors and Focal Persons to review the status of the One Health Implementation in the country.
The meeting will also witness the exhibition of One Health in other African Countries to build awareness of the wider One Health movement in Africa.
During the technical meeting, there will be presentations and discussions held on the One Health institutional framework for Liberia coupled with the validation of the Terms of Reference of the One Health platform.
