Monrovia – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through its funded project Ebola Transmission Prevention and Survivor Program has donated huge medical equipment to several public health facilities in Liberia.
The health facilities include, Redemption Hospital, Duport Road Health Center, C.H. Rennie Hospital, Dolo Town Health Center, Phebe Hospital, Tellewoyan Hospital, among others.
The cost of the medical equipment is put at more than one million United States dollars.
Presenting the medical equipment Monday symbolically at the Duport Health Center, USAID-Liberia Mission Director Anthony Chan said the equipment will help health workers better prevent, diagnose, and treat a range of diseases and health problems.
“I am particularly pleased that some of the equipment we are providing today, including this hematology analyzer, can be used to improve the quality of care for Ebola survivors.
Mr. Chan said the donation is in “support of the Ministry of Health National Ebola Virus Disease Secretariat charged to implement the Ebola survivors care and support policy and the JSI/APC Ebola program intended to improve the health care in facilities for Ebola survivors and the general population.”
He stressed the need for the donated equipment to be properly used and maintain so as to provide improved care for Ebola survivors, as well as the general public.
Mr. Chan also reiterated USAID’s commitment to helping Liberia build the capacity of health care workers and better equip health facilities with the goal of providing all Liberians access to quality health services.
Receiving the equipment, Liberia’s Health Minister Dr. Bernice Dahn lauded USAID for continuously supporting the ministry in its drive to improve health care services across the country.
Dr. Dahn said the donation would enhance government’s capacity to implement the resilient healthcare plan.
She pointed out that the donated equipment would not only benefit Ebola survivors, but other patients as well.
Minister Dahn assured that the equipment would be used for the intended purpose.
The medical equipment include Hematology analyzer, electric autoclave, slide dryer, pharmacy cabinet, infant resuscitator and mask, fetal Doppler, blood pressure machine, adults and pediatric stethoscopes, deliver kit, suture kit, among others.
