Monrovia – The Council of Patriots and its supporters were determined to remain on the streets until they hear a voice of reason from President George Weah, they therefore began to cook on the street in front of the Executive Mansion, prompting reaction of the Police – spraying them with hot water and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
The Police have not said they why they suddenly deicided to disperse the crowd that has been peaceful since this morning.
However, the Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lenn Eugene Nagbe, posted to Facebook “Please, your right to ‘peaceful assembly’ does not include the right to light fires on Capitol Hill. Unacceptable! Unacceptable!”
After some minutes of standoff between the police and the protestors, the police succeeded in getting the people off the streets.
The lead organizer of the protest, Henry Costa and Senator Abraham Dillon were not on the protest ground at the time began dispersing the crowd. However, Representative Yekeh Kolubah and Ms. Telia Urey were present.
Shortly before the crowd was dispersed, Rep. Kolubah informed the crowd that he had received intelligence that President Weah had ordered the arrest of the protestors. He also called on Costa, Mo Ali and Sen. Dillon to come back from wherever they were to the Capitol Hill so they could all be arrested together.
