Ganta, Nimba County – A 22-year-old Indian Dentist working at the Ganta United Methodist Hospital in Ganta, Nimba County Liberia died on Sunday, September 3, 2017 when fire gutted his residence at the doctors’ quarters in the hospital’s compound.
According to eye witnesses, Dr. Matthew Shem had come from work and was in his apartment, perhaps sleeping when the fire gutted the building at about 11:00 Sunday night.
The cause of the fire is yet to be established but it is believed that it emanated from a generator, which supplied both his and another Liberian Doctor apartments with electricity.
Both apartments burned completely.
However, the Liberian Doctor, Dr. Paye Gbarmie, has reportedly left for Monrovia when the incident occurred.
The death of the young doctor has brought activities at the Ganta United Methodist Hospital to a standstill.
The hospital’s Administration is yet to comment on the fire incident. Sunday’s fire incident brings to two the number of deaths caused by fire at the hospital in Ganta.
